Georgian, Scandinavian and Ukrainian Book Cultures: Educational Perspectives for Children and Youth
We are a Danish-Ukrainian interdisciplinary group of cultural studies and social science scholars from the Hans Christian Andersen Center and Aarhus University. Our project has a twofold aim: 1) to explore the creation, reception, and multiple uses of children’s and youth literature, as a tool for youth work and non-formal education within Georgian educational, cultural, and civic institutions and 2) to build new networks with colleagues from Georgia within the fields of education, publishing and museums. The idea arose at the international workshop “Surrounded by Conflicts: Children’s War Literature in the Making” (June 2025, Aarhus University), where we explored how literature is created during armed conflict and discovered a significant lack of access to Georgian war-themed children’s literature. Visiting Georgia will allow us to learn from local scholars and cultural actors, gain cultural insight, and establish a foundation for future academic and cultural cooperation.
